This is a beautiful prop that would make a great addition to a costume or used as as a static prop decoration. The design of the weapon was inspired by all three Lord of The Rings films as well as the new trilogy, The Hobbit.
Sting was an ancient blade made by Elvish weapon-smiths in Gondolin. When orcs or goblins were within an undetermined radius of it, the blade glowed blue, alerting the wielder and others who could see it to their presence. It is the only sword in Middle Earth that posesses this special power.
The engraved lettering on the blade are Sindarin letters that read phonetically, "Maegnas aen estar nin dagnir in yngyl im". Which translated means"Sting is my name; I am the spider's bane".
First appearing in The Hobbit, the blade was found by Bilbo Baggins in a Troll-hoard. It was then passed to Frodo before his quest into Mordor, and later to his best friend Sam Gamgee. Though just a dagger by the standard of elves, it made a perfect short sword for a Hobbit, although it was still rather small, as Bilbo initially chose to wear it "inside his breeches" and was still able to travel and even run without any apparent inconvenience.
