Through Greek art we see the presence of ideal attempts in telling a story in creating truth, thereby creating beauty. Beauty is needed for ideal to be revealed. But with Roman influence, there is a shift in the portrayal of real human contours and characteristics, even if unpleasant, and we see this with regard to Roman sculpture. "...in relation to portrait sculpture, an ideal quite different from the one we encountered in Greek Classicism. Instead of generalizing a human face, smoothed of its imperfections and caught in a moment of detached abstraction, this new Roman idealization emphasized---rather than suppressed...This mode is most prominent in bust portrait of Roman patricians,"
