Harshly realistic - showing how he really looked - this marble image was sculpted in about Year 25; many questions surround the identity of this 'stern-looking' man.
Made in the early Empire, it continues the Republican style, embodying values of respect, hard work, and loyalty to Rome. It also demonstrates that old age was a desirable quality, because the person had gained maturity and experience in life.
