The Virgin Mary´s family. The Bible does not tell us much of the Virgin Mary´s background and family. But writings from Early Christianity tell of the old, childless couple Anna and Jachim, who became, with the help of God, the parents of Mary. A popular subject in the religious art of the 15-16th century was St. Anna with Madonna and Child. In the Middle Ages the story was enlarged upon, to tell of Anna´s three marriages and her wider “Holy Family”
