Batman Vs Superman Flip For It

Description

A multiple color design inspired by the idea of flipping a coin. The Sign of "Allies" and "Enemies" rotate on an axis within the design. I think of it as a 2 decision coin toss; as you spin or toss the design, it can have four different results based on the Batman or Superman side, and then "Allies" or "Enemies" signs.

This design I primarily made for the Batman Vs Superman Design Challenge. I wanted to make something that moved, but is also fairly easy to print, and doesn't take a bunch of material. I wanted to create more of a unique looking batman and superman symbols, so I created my own that are inspired by not only the movie's combined symbol, but also features from their costumes.

It needs a bit more fine tuning because I didn't quite get to finish printing all the pieces yet, and take pictures. I designed it in OnShape, as I love the idea of being able to work on it anywhere, even on my phone (via their app) when I'm at work without a computer.

The original size is a total of 106.5 mm in diameter and about 7.25 mm thick. Which is quite bigger than a coin. I printed the parts in the photos at 66.67% of the X and Y (but not Z, as I was trying to keep the thickness down, so the pieces are already thin).  I did have to do some manual adjustments to the finished pieces, mostly just cleaning up the edges to get things to fit, and the clips on the signs I had to cut off and just glue them on for now.

I haven't uploaded any changes yet, but the original design has some issues; the clips on the two signs aren't designed correctly, I'm thinking I'll have to also tweak the design of the rod that's attached to the spinning sign, and probably tweak the layer heights to be a little thicker so the batman design stands out better.

Print the difference pieces in the varies colors of your choosing. Its designed to be printed with yellow, red, blue, and black. The two signs, the spinning sign middle, and outer-shell pieces can be printed in whatever colors you want.

As far as printer settings, I  would suggest a small layer height, 0.1mm or smaller would be best for the details, and a decent % of infill so the spinning part doesn't break easily. Batman, Superman's red cape with logo and Superman's blue body needs to be printed with the back down. The signs are currently designed to be printed face down. The outer-shell printed with the flat edges down.

There are 3 parts that need support, I tried designing it to not need support. The red Superman logo in the middle of the cape has a bit of a gap behind it due a cutout for the yellow insert that goes behind the logo (and Batman's eyes!) - so it needs a bit of support there (you could probably get away without it though). Also the signs have raised letters, with just a 0.25mm gap between the face of the letters and the bar that holds them together, you could probably get away with out support if you have a printer that can do good bridging.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed designing it. Leave a comment to let me know what you think of it. If you do make it, share pictures! If you modify it let me know too, I'd love to see any changes people make. This is my first design I've shared online, but the first of many!
