3D model description

This model is very similar to my previously released 32T GE steeplecab but has more room for powering it in smaller scales. This is a model of a General Electric steeplecab locomotive that was offered in various weights from 37T-55T and was used in numerous trolley freight applications throughout the country. This model is based on the 50T locomotive that was operated on many railroads, such as the Aroostook Valley. The STL files are done in 1:1 for easy printing in 1:32 (#1-Scale) after slicing. However, other scales can also be done and additional files that compensate for smaller scales are also included. This is a body and frame kit only with only some detail parts. It will be up to the user to provide powered trucks, handrails, couplers, weights and trolley pole. See my other uploads for custom made traction motor cases that can be used on commercial Piko archbar truck frames for #1-Scale. Frames are designed to take face mounted Kadee couplers for large scales and regular Kadee couplers in smaller scales. Note that in HO-Scale there are TWO versions, one for Northwest Shortline power trucks and one that uses the older motors from the Bachmann TWO-motor GE 44T locomotives.

3D printing settings

I have found that the design is best with 50% infill and normal quality. There are differing numbers of major components depending on scale. It will be up to the user to scale the models at the slicing level (my choice) or editing the STL files (not my choice). Scale conversions are as follows:

1:32 (#1) Scale (45mm track) = 100%
O-Scale (32mm track) = 66.7%
S-Scale (22.5mm track) = 50%
HO-Scale (16.5mm track) = 37%

The 1:32 (#1 scale) has 7 major parts: Cab roof with side cab walls; end hoods with front and back cab walls; top deck for the frame; the main frame; two pilots. There are additional files for spare parts and also a jig for help in bending handrails.

All of these can be printed on an 8" x 8" print bed though the main frame and floor deck needs to be turned 45 degrees to fit. For scales smaller than 1:32, where Kadee normal body mount couplers are used, the frames have pilots already attached. In larger scales the couplers must be mounted before the pilots attach.

All pieces should be built on rafts as I found that to work best.
All pieces should have normal support enabled for everywhere.
