I bought the BQ Hephestos last year.
It's my first 3D-printer, and the printer works well. But after approximately 3 months I see potential to optimize it for my needs.

The biggest improvements are the wooden base-plate with handles and the diagonal stiffening. Now I am able to transport the printer without re-calibrating it.

The LCD got a housing including a power switch (power comes from an ATX supply) and a switch for LED-lights. All the power and sensor cables are fix mounted in cable ducts. I only have to connect the power supply cables to a fix mounted terminal.

The Y- and Z-endstops became a new mounting, which allow an easy calbration of the endstops. I also added a energy chain for the Y-table and a heated bead (not connected yet). The heated bead lies on 8mm cork and ontop I placed the glas plate from BQ.

I also added a capacitive sensor at the print head for a future auto-bed-level.

Part-files and real pictures of the printer will come soon. The orientation of the parts for printing might not be correct, but I could print most of the parts without supports.

Update 2016-06-10:
I found a Neopixel Ring with 16 LEDs from Adafruit at home. I bought an Adafruit Trinket 5V and mounted the Neopixel Ring in front of the cooler at the print head. The housing for the Neopixel Ring is at the same time the new mounting place for the capacitive sensor. The Trinket got a housing, which I taped to the back of the Z-frame. I added the printed parts for the housing and the new air nozzle.

Update 2016-06-14:
I added the printed parts for my printbed. I use some plywood instead of the acrylic base from BQ. On top I have 2 layers of 4mm cork as an heat isolator. On top I placed a heated bed MK2 and the glas plate from BQ. In order to support the heated bed in the edges I designed 4 corner pieces. Instead of the paper clamps I printed a side support for the heated bed, which also clamps the glas plate. The heated bed is placed offset in Y-direction about 15mm.

Update 2016-06-16:
I added the printed parts to support the Y-axis-shafts and Z-axis-shafts. With this parts you can also add some diagonal M8-threaded-rods to stiffen the system. A disassembly of the Y-axis-shafts is now easy. Just loosen some nuts and you can take out the hole Y-axis or just the shafts. With the supports of the Z-axis-shafts it is possible to use the old X-axis from BQ. When you put the Z-shafts in the outer holes, you can use e.g. my new X-axis (coming soon). The black blocks under the posts are a EPDM-foam, which act as a kind of vibration-isolator.

Update 2016-06-21:
I uploaded the circuit-diagram how my installation will look like. There are a lot of terminal strips, but I want to have the possibility to use single components later on without de-soldering them.
