3D model description

My CR-10 Smart printers came with a table-based side spool holder that took up a lot of space. At the same time, I've got cabinets over where I keep my printers. So I wanted to hang it horizontally in my available space, and I wanted it to look nicer than most 3D printer accessories I see out there. (Your mileage on how nice it looks may, of course, vary.)

This is a pretty forgiving print, though it'll require supports (I used tree supports because I didn't care what the back looked like). A good V2 would be to expand the entire top to the size of the β€œlip” (sized where it is to grab the 2020 rail inside of the Z screw mount on my CR-10 Smart) and move the screw hole to it, but I'd already printed one and didn't really want to, so I let Cura do the supports for me. 😴

3D printing settings

I printed at 0.6 in the following materials:

  • Holder: Overture PLA (standard)
  • Axle: Overture PETG (standard); the roller bearing prints in place with the axle. PLA works fine too, from my test prints; I just wanted to print the axles and bolts on the second printer while the holders were going.
  • Bolts (2x): Polymaker Polyterra PLA+ (two bolts on the same print; print them with the male threads pointed upward for best finish)

I recommend at least 3 walls all around at 0.6, 4 walls at 0.4.

This build requires two M5x12 screws and two M5 T-nuts. You could convert it to smaller, that's just what I had around. And because of that, f3d and step files are included for customization to your needs.
