3D model description

We know you are as excited as us with the new game and want to start working on your robots right now. The official game objects for the VEX EDR field are designed specifically for injection molding production. Our VEX U team, the Puerto Rico Robotics Association (PRRA) fixed the field object models so that they’re easier for you to print!

The first part is the "Ball". All the dimensions are the same as they were taken from the official VEX EDR “Change Up” CADs. The ball was cut in half, and then we created a bigger ring in the inner circle, in order to get more bed adhesion and to reduce the amount of supports used. The only part that will need supports is the dimple that faces up. You'll need to put supports in your slicer and tweak the hanging angle so it only put supports in the middle spot.

The second part is the “Ring“. This part was taken straight out of the VEX Robotics field. We will be working with this part and updating the files in the next few weeks. For now, it will be printed as it is in order to test it and improve the model. To get this part, we had to download the official VEX field CADs and save the ring's .step file. We have uploaded this file in both .step and .stl, so that you don't have to go through this process.

The rest of the parts needed to assemble the field are common ones that can be found in any hardware stores like screws and piping. In case you need another part of the field to be modified or iterated in order to be 3D-printed, leave a comment below. You can also contact us directly through our team’s Instagram:

If you found these parts useful, please give it a like and share it with your robotics pals. Have a wonderful season!

*Update: For those of you that have smaller printers we’ve added 2 more options. First is a part named “VexEDR1of5BallToPrint” you need to print 5 of this to get half a ball and 10 to get a full one. The other option is the one named “VexEDR(1,2,3 or 4)of4BallToPrint” you need to print all 4 to get a half ball and need to print them twice to get a full one.*
