3D model description

UPDATE: 07. October 2018

Added:
22mm_solar_cell_holder.stl (for solar cells with a width of 22 mm)

This is a mendocino motor designed by me.

This motor is levitating and running as hell. I have nearly built 100 of them and they are all still running. The motor achieve a speed of higher than 2.000 rpm.

Have a look on my YouTube video of how to assembling (The build instruction is very detailed).

Just for fun a fully levitating mendocino motor :)

The following Parts are required:

Printed parts:
1 x mirror pad
2 x side part
1 x base magnet bracket
2 x solar cell holder
1 x coil holder

Neodym magnets:
4 x side part magnet - N45-12-6 (diameter: Ø 12mm, height: 6mm)
2 x mirror pad magnet - N42-5-5-5 (edge length: 5mm)
1 x base magnet - N42-25-7 (diameter: Ø 25mm, height: 7mm)
2 x shaft magnet - N45-12/4-6 (outer diameter: Ø 12mm, inner diameter: Ø 4mm, height: 6mm)

The shaft magnets and the side part magnets should be at least in N45 quality.

Others:
1 x enameled copper wire Ø 0,28mm
1 x carbon fibre tube Ø 4mm
1 x chrome steel ball Ø 4mm
1 x aluminium tube Ø 12mm, length 140 mm
1 x mirror or similar round Ø 20mm
4 x seal ring
6 x solar cell (0.5V, 200mA or higher)
1 x super glue

I have used solar cells with a dimension of 20 x 65mm, so the solar cell holders are designed for the width of 20mm. If you need other dimensions for the solar cell holder, please leave a comment.

You will need M4 headless screws in different lengths for balancing the motor.
Only use non magnetic screws like stainless steel A4 and/or polyamide.

finally take note if balancing the motor, you need balancing statically and dynamically otherwise your mendocino motor will hit the ground as soon as the sun comes out.
