Bel was the archdevil who acted as the Archduke of the First Circle of Hell until he was supplanted by fallen archangel. He was military genius and led the armies in Blood War, as well as against heavenly hosts who from time to time try to invade Hell.
Unlike many other archdevils, Bel chose to retain the shape of a pit fiend, appearing as a towering devil with crimson scales and bat-like wings, claws and fangs. He is brutal, bestial and hateful, but above all cunning and a realist.
