3D model description

This has quickly become one of my favorite models. Originally I made this to be a candy bucket that accompanied an alien costume. However, it is too fun to limit it to a candy bucket and I made a version without the bucket strap slots.

Your download will include two options - With and without the slots for a strap. Use it as a standalone light by putting an LED in the bottom, use it as a purse, or a candy bucket. The choice is yours! Both versions use the same lid (dome), base (cone), and bottom half of the main body.

Finished size:
Height: 285 mm / 11.2 in.
Width: 206 mm / 8.11 in.

3D printing settings

Nozzle and Layers: I printed my UFO with a 0.40 mm nozzle. For the main body pieces and lid (dome) I used 0.15 mm layers. For the cone base I used 0.30 mm layers.

Infill: For the dome lid I used 100% infill. For the main body pieces I used 25% infill for extra durability and 100% infill on all the layers containing the hinge. For the cone base I used 100% infill since I used translucent filament there. Feel free to customize your infill for the cone. (See model notes contained in the zip folders for more information)

Supports: Supports are required for this print. I printed my dome lid with a bit of support under the center. I also generated supports under main body pieces for angles of 25% or less. The base cone requires no supports.

Assembly:
1. Glue the top and bottom main body pieces together.
2. Screw the cone onto the bottom
3. Make sure the hinge is free of debris and then slide the dome lid through the slot in the hinge. It should fully open and close with ease and without interference.
4. Optional: Place an LED puck in the bottom to light up the model.
5. If using a strap, the slots accept a 1 inch wide strap.
