3D model description

I've always thought tonyyoungblood's Magic: The Gathering Counters / Chips system (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1815081/remixes) was absolutely amazing. Sadly, it's become slightly out of date. With the move to Magic's Arena client, the symbols got a complete overhaul, and new ones are added with each new ability. This means any design uploaded here will be out of date quickly....unless it was customizable.

Introducing the Magic: the Gathering Fully Customizable Keyword Counters!

These are a complete recreation in OpenScad of tonyyoungblood's original design. But rather than use static symbols, it utilizes the fantastic and well maintained Magic: the Gathering card symbol font project. Simply feed the symbols you want to generate into the OpenScad parameter, and you can generate whatever counters you need! When more symbols are added, you can generate more!

These counters are the perfect pairing with my Magic: the Gathering Universal Token (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5552035)!

The OpenScad file supports two modes::

Standard Mode

  • All keyword counters are printed with a base counter height of 2.7mm.
  • The symbol is then extruded another 1.3mm beyond that, for a total height of 4mm.
  • Since the heights are known, you can pause the print at the 2.7mm layer and swap colors to get a two tone counter. See the orange on black photos I printed for a player at my LGS.
  • Supports new symbols automatically, just pop them in and you're ready to go!
  • Ideal if you want a color scheme across your counter.
  • Use one of c,w,u,b,r, or g to generate a blank counter.

Multicolor Batch Mode

  • Enabled by setting the multicolorBatch parameter to true.
  • All keyword counters are printed with variable height, ranging from 2.7mm to 3.7mm, depending upon colors used.
  • Designed to be printed with CWUBRG colors of plastic swapped in at the appropriate layers. See the main photo. You can optionally, as I did, print the base of the counter a different color. (I did it because I was low on grey plastic).
  • Designed to use grey plastic <= 2.7mm, then switching every 0.2 mm after that to White, then Blue, Black, Red, and finally Green.
  • Symbols have been prepopulated, roughly based on the color pie of abilities.
  • Symbols with a symbol color lower in the priority order than their base color, (for example, see the trample or first strike counter) will be printed as an indented symbol instead of a raised one.
  • While not exposed in a public variable, you can change the order of the plastic colors you wish to use.
  • Ideal if you want your counters to follow the color pie for easier identification.
  • Requires you to set which colors you want for each symbol in the provided variables.

Included are two STLs of the default OpenSCAD file settings, one for standard prints and one for a multicolor batch print.
