###Description

This is a replica of a Marconi/Selex H4855 radio AKA Personal Role Radio.

Consists of two parts - main empty "box" with holes and buttons box (PTT box) and they screw to one aonther with a metal screw just as original radio parts are. This replica might be used in a multiple ways. The easiest and most useful one - to make a PTT box for a portable radio, wihich can then be used with original (or chinese knockoff) headset.

You can choose to make PTT for either one-channel radio (such as Baofeng UV-B5, Yaesu, Motorola), or "two channel" (in fact, radio with two ptt buttons, i.e Baofeng UV-82 or Zastone A-19).

Main "box" might contain some electronics as well (volume control or even whole mini-radio). It has a functional battery compartment as well as holes for volume control, channel selector and antenna. Or you can just glue the external parts.

PTT box exists in four varieries. Two of them are single-button, and dual-button and each of these are either for LEMO connector or for a russian military-grade PC4 connector. The latter one is best for chinese Bowman headset replicas, cause it is easy to solder and is much cheaper in Russia than even chinese LEMO-compatible connectors.

  1. Square button, 12mm.
  2. Round button, 12ΠΌΠΌ.
  3. Connector Lemo (clone, EGG 1B or better ECG 1B, 5-pin), or PC4.
  4. Flat slot screw М5Ρ…16 (might be sligtly longer).
  5. Cable to connect to radio or inexpensive radio headset (only cable needed).
  6. Potentiometer RV097NS an 16-position encoder (optional).

###Print settings

Most parts are made from ABS, as it is easy to grind/polish and has a good adhesion. And it is strong enough for this particular replica.

The only exceptions is antenna(s). You need to print it from flexible material, TPU for example, otherwise they will be too stoff and will break easily. But if you are stubborn enough to print it with ABS/PETG, glue some metal or glass/carbon-fiber rod into hole in the antenna.

  • Layer - 0.15 mm
  • Infill - 40%
  • Top/bottom - 5-6 layers
  • Walls - 4-5 layers

Actually, it's best to print knobs with a photopolymer priner. I got exceptionally good results with my Elegoo Mars Pro and black Anycubic Eco resin.

###Assembly

  1. Clean the part thoroughly from supports, then lap/grind them with a filer. Ensure they join without play and you do not have to force them to do so. Be polite.
  2. Apply putty and let dry (optional)
  3. Grind and polish (imho this step is inevitable)
  4. Apply primer and let dry
  5. Apply paint (I found Focso Olive Drab to be very close to original radios) and let dry
  6. I mean it, let it dry completely
  7. Install electrical parts to main box
  8. Insert battery compartment lid in its place and glue the main box rear part.
  9. Attach knobs (or just glue them on box).
  10. Glue the mock antenna
  11. If you are maiking PTT then drill the bottom of the PTT box and glue the radio cable into it (there is a blind hole inside the PTT box).
  12. Install buttons and headset connector, wire it
  13. Screw the PTT onto the main box.
  14. Print provided decals (600dpi), cut and glue (preferrably use self adhesive)
  15. Profit!
