3D model description

Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. Gs switched from S-hooks to C-Hooks in June 1944. Most (or all?) StuG IIIG kits are missing these C-hook clamps which were mounted one on each fender approximately at the mid-point. I have provided: clamps latched with C-hook inserted; clamps empty but latched; clamps unlatched with end of retaining strap resting on prongs that catch the end of the strap when latched; clamps fully open with strap laying back; extra straps; C-hooks with center locking piece in; C-hooks without center locking piece installed (allows putting C-hook in towing eyes of tanks per photos); C-hook center locking piece to be installed once C-hook is attached to the towing eye. The holes in the C-hook for the lock might need to be drilled out. The C-hooks should work with 1/35 scale kits of any Panzer III/IV based vehicles, not just Sturmgeschutz, but the clamps are specific to Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. Gs. I only had a Dragon Models Sturmgeschutz IIIG and a Rye Field Models Panzer IV J late to test the fit on. I will continue to work on improving these C-hooks and designing other C-hook variations, and will update these files when I have completed designs. I include the retaining straps of the clamps as individual STLs to be used if the straps break off the empty clamps.

EDIT: On initial upload I neglected to include the C-hook clamp base with no strap attached so I have uploaded it as an individual STL and as four supported on a raft. With that base and one of the individual straps you can use a model kit C-hook in the clamp. Dragon Models Pz III/IV based kits have decent C-hooks that fit in this clamp. Rye Field Models' C-hooks are really lousy so I don't recommend using them, and I don't have examples of Takom, MiniArt or Border Models C-hooks to say whether or not they fit.

3D printing settings

Print at 20-25 microns. In the photos, you can see striations in some of the C-hooks & clamps. Those were printed at 35 microns. The smoother ones were printed at 20 microns. I highly recommend using strong resin with some flexibility, either an ABS-like resin or a blend of standard resin and a flexible resin such as SirayaTech Tenacious or Anycubic Tough. The empty clamps are extremely delicate.
