3D model description

The old UFO container was extremely hard to print. This version is threaded as opposed to having a hinge. It was designed to allow color swaps at different levels. This model can be scaled to preference. There are multiple files included

-UFO.obj is the normal lid or UFO. This needs to be printed with supports in the center of the model between the threads. I painted these supports on. If you have good support settings i would definitely recommend printing this with complete supports touching the build plate.

  • UFO Beam.stl is the bottom part of the container and prints a large flat surface so a brim is recommended but not necessary.

  • UFO split.stl is the lid of the UFO split in half. You can print both parts and glue them together if you do not want to use supports.

-Smooth UFO.stl is a smooth version of the regular UFO.obj which prints better with minimal support (painted in-between the threads)

The Bambulabs file has the orientation set up to enable (Print by object) reducing the time needed to print this model.

3D printing settings

I printed the UFO multiple ways and the 2 best ways are smooth UFO (but you loose the texture) and UFO split super glued together.

i made some really nice sturdy feeling containers using grid infill and 5 walls (definitely overkill but they felt very nice)

If you use cura you can enable a plugin to do a filament swap at certain times to the UFO.
