3D model description

As the title says, this is a fully parametric case for an HTC MyTouch 3G phone. I have printed this out for my wife's phone, and it works great. I know this is a really old phone, but I figured by putting up the .SCAD file, others might be able to modify it for their own phones if they are similar enough.

3D printing settings

If you have a MyTouch 3G phone, just print out my_touch_3g_final.stl and my_touch_3g_button.stl in the colors of your choice. You may want to cut the button in half at the score line. I found that it works better that way. Note that this version of the case has no label. I uploaded the version that has my wife's initials on it, too, just for completeness: my_touch_3g_MLS.stl. I also uploaded the DXF file that I used to generate the label: MLS.dxf.

If you want to modify it to have your own initials, you'll need to generate a line-only DXF file using your favorite application (Inkscape works great). Then modify the variable "labeltext" to point to your DXF file. Here's a tutorial and tool that can help with this:

Here's a list of all the user parameters that can be modified, along with their default values.

len = 115.5; // maximum length of phone along the long axis.
wid = 55.58; // maximum width of phone along the narrow axis.
ht = 12.36; // thickness of the phone.
lip = 2.24; // width of the sloped "lip" around the top edge of the phone.
lipht = 3.05; // height of the sloped "lip" around the top edge of the phone.
baselip = 4; // width of the sloped "lip" at the bottom (mouthpiece) side of the top edge of the phone. It is wider than for the rest of the phone.
baselipht = 5; // height of the sloped "lip" at the bottom (mouthpiece) side of the top edge of the phone. It is taller than for the rest of the phone.
curve = 7.14; // radius of curvature of the curved portion of the phone base.
wallt = 2; // desired wall thickness of the case.
armbandl = 40; // length of the armband slots.
armbandw = 2.5; // width of the armband slots.
armbandgap = 25; // spacing between armband slots.
camoffl = 21; // offset of center of camera hole to top edge of flat portion of the case base.
camoffw = 1; // offset from phone center line for the center of the camera hole.
camrad = 7/2; // radius of the camera hole.
plugwid = 21.6; // width of the USB plug hole at the bottom of the case.
plught = 8.5; // height of the USB plug hole at the bottom of the case.
volwid = 32; // width of volume button slot.
volht = 5; // height of volume button slot.
volz = 2; // offset of bottom of volume button slot.
voloff = 13; // offset of center of volume slot to top edge of flat portion of the case base.
volblip = 1; // amount that the base lip of the volume buttons extends beyond the volume slot perimeter.
volbin = 0.55; // depth of the base inset for the volume button.
thumbrad = 7.5; // radius of the holes to push phone out of case.
thumboff = 4.5; // offset of center of thumb holes to top edge of flat portion of the case base.
thumbspace = 25; // spacing between the two thumb holes.
labelz = 4.5; // offset of bottom of label from case base.
labeloff = 40; // offset of start of label to top edge of flat portion of the case base.
labeldepth = 2.5; // larger values cut deeper.
labelsx = 0.25; // label width scaling factor
labelsz = 0.15; // label height scaling factor
labeltext = "MLS.dxf"; // name of the file to import for the label The default is 150mm wide by 70mm tall. Adjust scaling factors if yours is different. Be sure your .dxf is constructed from line segments only. Curves do not import into OpenSCAD.
