3D model description

3D Printable Sunflower©

Copyright:© All rights reserved!

This model is Exclusive to Cults3D.com

3D Printable Sunflower© has a modular design which allows you to add stem sections and leaves as you wish. The model shown in the images has 4 straight stem sections.

All parts have been tested thoroughly and are optimised for 3D Printing. Please review the images for the proper build plate orientations.

Glue is required, see printing instructions...

3D printing settings

Please note: If you want to make a really tall one, then it is recommended that you use extra infill on the stem sections, threads and the base for the extra strength. Otherwise the recommended settings are as follows...

Please slice with Ultimaker Cura Slicer

For the centre of the Sunflower (Seed Disk)

Supports touching build plate.
At least 20% infill
Infill pattern: Concentric
Top and Bottom pattern: Concentric
Top Layers: 8

If you resize the Sunflower to print at a smaller size, you should use the SeedDisk_WithoutFlorets.stl for the centre of the sunflower. A nozzle finer than 0.4mm would also be required as fine details would be lost if using a standard 0.4mm nozzle. Resizing is not recommended as parts have not been tested at smaller scales, but if you must resize then please take note of this.

For the Stem sections and the Threads Important

At least 20% infill
Infill pattern: Triangular
Top and Bottom pattern: Concentric
Infill pattern for the bent stem section: Cubic

The bent stem section will require build supports touching the build plate.

The threaded inserts must be glued into the bent stem. Strong Water resistant hobby glue or superglue are recommended.

Please note, for the bent stem section, the short end attaches to the flower head.

For the Base Important

At least 20% infill
Infill pattern: Cubic
Top and Bottom pattern: Concentric

For the Petals, Sepals and Leaves

At least 20% infill
Infill pattern: Concentric
Top and Bottom pattern: Concentric

For the Leaf specifically-
Layer Height 0.2mm
Top Layers: 8

You may need to clean the internal pattern on the face of the leaf slightly with a fine tipped file. Setting print cooling to enable at layer 7 may prevent this. (assuming a layer height of 0.2mm)

The petals and leaves print flat (face down) and can be heat shaped after printing, with the use of an hot air gun or hot water.

To shape the leaf, simply warm it up until it becomes flexible and press it gently between the palms of your hands until it sets. Pressing a slight crease along the main veins will give a natural look to the leaf.

If you wish to shape the petals and sepals it is recommended that you first assemble the flower head. Use an hot air gun with a small nozzle and apply the heat locally to each petal.

Lastly, please note that these settings are recommended but you may need to alter them, depending on what works better for your printer.

The models in the images were printed and tested on an Anycubic Delta printer, using PolyTerra PLA (Yellow & Orange) and 3DFilaPrint rePLAy (Green) recycled PLA plastics, from 3dfilaprint.com

Please use PLA plastics for printing this model.
