3D model description

This is a fully printable 2 pcs filament cutter providing multi angles (90°, 60°, 45°, 30°). 9mm snap off blade required
Why I did this design:

I was checking out the existing filament cutters and I either didn't like the poor tolerances they were designed or the need to so many parts to assemble (especially springs are not in every ones drawer) or the were only designed for one cutting angle, so I decided put all this into this design.

Features:
- fully printable

  • you only need a 9mm snap off blade (no screws or springs or anything else

  • multiple cutting angles in on tool (90°, 60°, 45°, 30°)

  • easy assembly

Printing instructions:

  • print orientation as shown in the picture to allow the parts to take the force parallel to the layer lines

  • PETG tested (0,4mm nozzle with 0,2mm layer hight) , but it should also work flawless with PLA

  • if you find the tolerance to tight, just increase the size of the blade holder part by a few percent until you can reproduce the required gap. The part is designed in a way that a simple all dimensions scaling should work.

Post printing / Assembly:

  • depending on the print quality you can achieve you may need to use a 2mm drill to clear out the holes, especially if your printer generates a small elephant foot.

  • break off 7 segments of the blade (you can also use the last 3 segments and the longer part with the hole in it. This will allow you to do 2 cutters with one full blade)

  • place the blade into the base as shown on the picture and pin it by sliding on the blade holder part a few mm

  • now place the cutter vertical and press it closed, so the blade now is locked in all 3 dimensions

  • finally push down the blade holder part (I use a small hammer since I am printing with thigh tolerances at 100% model size of both parts)

Possible modification:

  • if your printer is producing a filament blob at the end of the filament when you pull it out, you might want to use a 2.5mm or even a 3mm drill to increase the holes in order to be able to push even the largest blobs through.

Remarks:

  • I added the FreeCAD model if you want to modify the design

  • also if you have any comments, just let me know
