3D model description

This set of blank inserts will help you make cool effects inside your handmade dice when encased in an outer shell of transparent resin. You can paint and finish the blanks in whatever way you can dream of - flowers, swirls, vines, coat them in glitter... These are best used when finished, molded, and cast.

Size
The blank inserts are sized to fit with my "Average/Normal" size dice, each fitting just within the standard numbering depth of 0.8mm with just a tiny margin. This means these blanks will tend to "self-center" when placed inside a mold made for the Average/Normal sized dice, and you need only pour in a thin layer of transparent resin in the gap. These are sized to fit with all of my currently-available Average/Normal sized ready-to-print dice STLs, and will work with any of my customized sets in Average/Normal size too (as long as you chose the standard number depth). These may fit with other dice sets than my own, but I can't guarantee it - you may be able to scale them to fit other sizes.

Presupported, with Bumpers
These files are ready to print, with supports included for easy printing on a resin printer. Not suitable for filament printing.

The presupported versions include "bumpers" - a small extra edge which is meant to be sanded off in finishing. These bumpers help with dimensional stability, and also prevent chipping when you remove the supports. They sand off very easily with a rub on 1200 grit sandpaper and add very little finishing time, while really improving print quality.

14 Shapes, Supports Included:
There are a variety of shapes included with this set, so you can mix-and-match to build the perfect set:

► D4: Standard Pyramid, Crystal, Gem/Shard
► D6: Standard Cube, Rhombus
► D8: Standard and Pointier
► D10: Standard and Pointier
► DPER: Standard and Pointier
► D12: Standard and Rhombus
► D20: Standard

These are the same 14 shapes included in all of my standard numbered ready-to-print sets, so you can choose any of those sets of mine and pair them with these, and they'll work together.

This set includes STLs for the raw, sharp-edged blank inserts, versions of the same dice STLs with bumpers added, as well as pre-supported, ready-to-print STLs, for a total of 42 STL files. (D10 and DPER are the same shapes but are duplicated within the files to make it easier to remember to print both for a whole set.)

The supports setup on the presupported files is carefully calibrated to print dice masters as perfectly as possible - make sure you calibrate your exposure settings before printing, for best results. An 8 page PDF is also included which includes printing and calibration instructions as well as tips on removing supports and sanding and polishing your prints.

All numbered dice geometry shown in preview images is for illustrative purposes only, to demonstrate how these files are meant to be used. Numbered dice files must be purchased separately.

.

Usage of the Files:

These files are supplied to print your own dice masters, so you may upload them to a printing service such as Shapeways as a privately viewable object to have them printed for you, or send them to someone you know who owns a resin printer who will print them for you, or similar transfer of files to get them printed up for you. You are not allowed to redistribute the STL files otherwise.

You can print as many copies of your masters as you need from these STL files, and you may modify the files as needed, but you may not redistribute any of those modified files except to have them printed for you as detailed above.

For commercial use:
► You can sell silicone molds made from these, for the purposes of others casting dice in them.
► You can sell resin dice cast from molds based on the prints of these files (if you may do so in your country - certain types of dice may be patented for sale as gaming devices in certain countries - my files are 3D models of dice rather than gaming devices themselves).
► You may NOT sell the 3D prints of these files - I sell the physical 3D printed masters myself exclusively.
► Crediting me is not necessary, but always appreciated.
► Any other usage, please contact me first.

3D printing settings

Requires a resin 3D printer - not suitable for FDM printing.

Many resins are suitable for dice printing, but some may tend to distort (causing certain dice like the cube D6 to be visibly skewed), or provide only "mushy" detail on lower faces, with numbers on overhangs filling in where they shouldn't. Some resins may need extreme post-curing, time to off-gas, or coating with products such as Inhibit-X. Siraya Tech Blu and Ameralabs AMD-3 LED tend to capture detail very well and are particularly recommended.

Perfect exposure calibration is key to success with dice printing. Err on the side of slight under-exposure to ensure easy-to-remove supports and crisp numbers. A PDF guide is included to assist in calibrating exposure for dice printing.

You may need to adjust your exposure and lift settings and/or try a different resin to get a good print. If you have trouble getting a good print, please contact me - I'm happy to assist in troubleshooting.
