Key with Text

Do you want to hold the “Key 2 Success”? Is there someone special who deserves the “Key 2 My Heart”? Or do you want to include your own sentiment, saying, address, or idea? Single extrusion options included!

This started out as a project with my daughter. She needed prop keys for her summer program theater performance that corresponded to historical events represented in their play. Now you can make your own too!

Ready-to-print models include the “Key 2 Success” and “Key 2 My Heart” variations. Also included are blank keys and an entire alphabet of characters you can use to add your own text. See images for example ideas.

The “Blank Key” has a slightly raised head as shown in most of the photos. I included a “Blank Key Flat” version which would be most useful for two-color prints using single extrusion with one filament swap. The flat key can be printed first and then the text on top.

Bonus! “Hook for 2 Keys” included among model files. My daughter’s classmate needed a way to hold two keys at a time hanging from their pants waistband in a way to get them on and off easily. It’s a simple print to add to the fun when printing toys for kids. See example in photos.

Customization Notes

For custom text, you will need to use your slicer or an editing program to split the “Key Alphabet and Symbols” STL file into separate models and then arrange them on the key as desired. The model z-origin for the alphabet is aligned to sit on top of the blank key models. Or use a program like Tinkercad to add your own text.

If you want the text engraved, you will need to edit the STL files for the blank keys. An STL editing program like Tinkercad can help with this.

Key is 153 x 56 x 5 (or 8 if thicker head) mm. Text is 2 mm thick. For the “Key 2 Success” and “Key 2 My Heart” you can use either blank key with the regular text, or for dual extrusion use the corresponding “Engraved” key (regular or flat) and “Embedded” text.

Or for a quick, single-extrusion print, use an “Engraved” key on its own!
