Even one of these guys can be extremely problematic amongst a large group of Xenos. ―Prowler Description, IGN

A prowler atop a pinned marine.

The Prowler resembles the Runner, and may be a specialized variant. It is a mostly black creature, though it's mesoskeleton has the reddish accents seen only on the runner caste though in a much richer hue. It all has a small, but conspicous head-crest and it's body appears decently armored. Prowlers appear to have a preference for quadrupedal locomotion and lack Dorsal Tubes. Like a mature drone, they have impressive bladed tails instead of the stingers found on immature adult forms of the Xenomorph, such as the Drone or Runner.

Their resemblance to Runners may a part of the Xenomorph's combat strategy, hiding amongst the chaos of more common Xenomorphs to attack. The Prowler leaps at prey, bowling them over to then savage them with it's teeth and claws. Holding down prey, other aliens can also join in on the attack. However, it does not appear to be the strongest morph of Alien, as a human can shove it away whilst it makes this assault.[1] Trivia The Prowler was designated as the Xenomorph Jumper before the game's release.[2] Prowlers, resembling a middle-ground between Runners and Crushers, may be related to or synonymous with Sentries. The prowler's attack is very similar to the Hunter from the Left 4 Dead series as well as later Lurker from Aliens: Colonial Marines, including their tendency to hide among more normal enemies.
