Worker Drone from Transformers G1 The Key to Vector Sigma

Worker Drone from Transformers G1 The Key to Vector Sigma 3D print model

Description

Brought back from scrap by miracle medic, Ratchet, these worker drones were the Autobots' secret weapon against the seemingly invincible hoards of Centurion Droids!

Pretty basic bots as they are, this take on them nevertheless gives them as much articulation as possible. So they can march around for the final time, which was what they were essentially brought back for :P

Unlike in the animation, it was a little tricky to figure out how to allow their legs to bend forward a full 90 degress. To make this happen, a 'skirt flap' was designed. So now, they can sit around while on break or awaiting something interesting to happen!

Though we tried to make him somewhat screen accurate with the two shoulder 'bumps' on this torso, this did somewhat get in the way of full arm articulation. So having it on or off was left as an option.

And the difference in possible range of motion here between the left and right shoulders can be seen above.

Being the worker drones they are, they must have had to lug some of their tools around. So for this, a 5mm port was designed into their backs, perfect for pegging on any accessories or tools you may like!

To allow for more dynamic or action posing, a small 3mm port has been designed into the underside of his groin, so he can be attached to display stands. And we're never not going to put 5mm ports on the underside of bots' feet for booster effects.

Much like the centurion droid, the worker drone has a similar titanmaster compatible easter egg! If the neck peg was not glued in permanently in place, his default head can be removed to allow for any compatible titanmaster to be pegged in its stead!

Also, to recreate the scene of them getting re-animated by Ratchet, the worker drone has a lift-able chest flap to reveal his inner gizmos.

=== Assembly ==

Being one of the more complicated full figure builds, here's a handy visual guide to all the parts of the worker drone and how they go together:

Where the parts mirror from one side to the other (e.g. : Left Hand and Right Hand), they have been left out for better clarity.

Mostly 5mm pegs have been used for the hinge joints for this bots, and the 3d printable variants are all provided. The smaller joints for the chest flap and the skirtflaps are sized to be 2mm and are to be connected using short segments of 1.75mm filament.

As usual, where there may be fittings which end up being too tight or loose due to variances in 3d printing, a bit of sanding or dab of superglue may be used respectively.

===

As always, hope everyone enjoys 3d printing and putting together the worker drone, and boy are we looking forward to seeing some of you do up an entire army of them! =D
