3D model description

Spaceframe chassis replacement for Marui Samurai

The Marui Samurai has a beautiful chassis inspired by 80's japanese motorcycle's spaceframe design. Unfortunately this is a very exposed parts so it can break easily, most often around the rear gearbox as there can be a lot of tension.

-100% modeled by myself from scratch. no scan.

  • It's faithful to the genuine design, but I added a bit of matter in the excavations on the backside of the spaceframe, without filling every nook and cranny as the chassis must keep a bit of flex to absorb shocks.

  • I also reversed the rear oil damper fixation mount. Now I use 2 M3x30 flathead screw and 2 M3 nuts to securely attach the mounting screw on the chassis, and I maintain the oil damper with a nylstop M3 nut on the outside. It's the Kyosho Optima way of attaching the dampers on the shock stay. It allows for more durability as each time you dismantled the oil dampers on the genuine chassis, you ruined the screwhole...

  • compatible with my underguard of course

  • it was probably the most complex modeling exercise I had in RC cars modeling so far.

  • Tested in real racing conditions (alongside my rear gearbox and underguard) by Marc Wecker. He even crashed the car violently and it's still alive :D You can see the BLACK chassis on the last pic... Thanks Marc!

3D printing settings

MJF PA2 recommended

I don't recommend glassbeads MJF as it will loosen the flexibility

I haven't tried transparent resin yet but it's on the todolist...
