3D model description

A 55mm diameter puck for small air hockey tables.

I bought a small 48" air hockey table on clearance for $10 and wasn't about to spend $6-8 for extra pucks. I knew one day the one puck that came with it would go missing, so I decided to print a spare or two. The other designs I found printed well, but didn't glide that well - some not at all. I took out the micrometer and tried copying the design that came with the table, and well, those didn't float well either. After several tries I found a winner. Due to the nature of FDM printing it works much better if just one surface acts as the float surface. So, I decided to add a design to the top. Using some MakerGeeks silver metallic PLA, a large quarter turned out really nice and floats equally well, if not a little better, than the original design. Who knew how much fun it would be to hit a US quarter around an air hockey table! I also added my family crest to one. I haven't uploaded that file, but if there's an interest in the Cameron family crest puck, shoot me a message.

A note on durability.....The pucks survived rough play by teenagers and adults...for a time. A few developed cracks after being hit a little too hard the wrong way. Mostly by someone slamming down on the puck from above. For you air hockey fans out there you know the move I'm speaking of. The beauty is this prints in under an hour, so its easy to get a replacement. Mix and match colors and try playing with multiple pucks - a true test of eye hand coordination. Enjoy!
