3D model description

Same as my first version except with the addition of 4 LED mounts to add light up under the printhead:

This is a compact print cooling shroud built for the GEEETech MK8 Extruder/Printhead - for me it's on an Acrylic Prusa i3b. The shroud wraps around the aluminum cooling heatsink which on my printer has the cooling fins in a vertical orientation. I used SketchUp to design the simple surround and ducting to direct air out of the bottom of the fan/heatsink and down to the front and back of the printhead for cooling the print quite well. I added a thicker 20mm 40x40 fan for more airflow/pressure and sealed it using aluminum tape (find at a Home Store, used for A/C ducting).

Result: airflow is actually surprisingly good and directed exactly on print extrusion area . . . and I don't need a "flying fan" attachment.

Ver 2.0 adds the LED's x4 directing light around the nozzle so I don't need to find a flashlight every time I want to see how my print is doing or to inspect/clean my nozzle.

3D printing settings

Designed in SketchUp

Mesh corrected using netfabb

Printcontrol with Repetier host

LED's I used are: BCMD204UWC (3200mcd, 3mm, 3.2Vf @20mA - 25Viewing Angle) actual measurements are 3.1mm diam with a 3.8mm diam lip at the very top x 6.3mm in length, 3.3v, set in the mounts with silicone at the top of each bulb, hooked up in series then directly to the 12v power supply with a separate on/off switch (see my other things for the switch box),
