3D model description

Print a elegant and stylish Japanese Shoji style lantern with Kumiko Sakura Kikkou style pattern.

There are a number of different ways that cherry blossoms, the beloved flower of Japan, are expressed in kumiko design.
Craftsmen create the lovely pattern of cherry blossoms, which can appear as if studded with sparkling gemstones, by modifying a tortoise shell pattern to bring out its delicacy.

The lamp at 100% is roughly 4 inches by 7 inches it is perfect for desk or table top. The lantern can be assembled without glue for flexibility or glued for strength.

Then for the full effect glue some nice quality Japanese paper on the inside. Generally white with some texture, but let your creativity shine.

A variety of bases are provided, a blank one, LED tea light and candelabra bulb. The lantern is able to easily lit with an LED tea light without any base included if desired. If you are going to use the tea light base or candelabra base then it is recommended to leave one side unglued as it will be hard to replace the light when required if the lantern is fully glued together using those bases.

All large lanterns have the same sized panels so panels from multiple designs can be swapped.

3D printing settings

The lantern can be printed with a 0.3 layer height and 10% infill for speed.
Generally an interesting surface pattern such as Hilbert Curve to the top surface or such adds a very nice touch to the external faces of the lantern.

It is important to note that the build plate side of the lantern is inside facing. If the details of the Kumiko have problems on the first layer that can be ignored as the are almost always corrected on subsequent layers and the top outer-facing layer ends up just fine.

The 'lantern_inner_box' is the size of the inside of the lantern. Print this model in vase mode with a translucent filament, such as a matte white, and it will create an insert that will slide into the lantern giving the effect of the paper. Makes for an easy way to give the lantern a very finished and striking look.

An entire lantern at 100% will be roughly 160 grams of filament.
