3D model description

This is my depiction of Sam Vimes from the Night Watch, my most beloved character in Terry Pratchett's Diskworld-Novels. Terry Pratchett once said that he imagined Vimes as a cross between Clint Eastwood and Pete Postlethwaite. I tried to be true to that statement, but went a little more Eastwood than Postlethwaite, as this came nearer to my own depiction of Vimes.

I have sculpted him together with Errol the Swamp Dragon, but I changed the posture usually shown in images of the two, with Vimes holding Errol by the dragon's legs and throat like a gun. In my imagination Vimes treats the little dragon a bit more tenderly. I put some thought into how a Night Watch helmet might look like and deviated again from the usual depiction of that headgear that looks like a cross between a morion and a particularly ugly nightcap. Instead I gave Vimes the classical helmet of a medieval foot soldier, a design that seems to have been so successful that British and US armed forces wore it until and into the Second World War. The sculpt was done with Nomad Sculpt.

I hope you enjoy the bust - and if you haven't heard yet of Terry Pratchett's Diskworld and like to read humorous fantasy novels with a fascinating and very humanistic insight in human society, written by a master of his craft, go and get one! With a nod to the late Terry Pratchett and his wonderful imagination - here is Sam Vimes!

3D printing settings

I have included two versions, a full one and a hollowed out one with a wall thickness of 2 mm. The bust has roughly 110 mm in height, but of course you can scale it to your own preferences.

For better painting I have divided it into three parts, Vimes' head, Vimes' body and Errol's upper body. The archives also include a version in one piece.

I haven't put supports on the parts because I myself prefer to put my own supports on models I download.
