The goal of this design is to combine all of the external accessories for the Steam Deck into one portable unit.
You can add hard drives, a USB hub, and/or your choice of external battery with any panel mount connectors you need, so that all you have to do is plug in and go. With the correct battery and hub choice, you will be able to charge your Deck at full speed while tethered, without needing to plug into the wall. You can choose a shorter cable to play docked with a display and charge the battery at the same time, or a longer cable to just use your external hard drives while trickle charging. The configuration is entirely up to you!
The size of the cube is 250 by 250 by 100 millimeters, and will fit in most backpacks. You could also create yourself a cross-body sling for even lighter travel while you game! A half-height Lite version is included for those who don't want as much clutter, as well as a full-sized version with an upper drawer for cable and accessory storage and easy access to the interior.
NOTE: some hub/battery combinations may not work as intended. My hub and hard drive draw power from my battery even when not connected to the Deck, so I have to unplug the battery from the hub when not in use (this part of the reason for the drawer design).
Both Storage Cube (Aperture logo) and Companion Cube (heart logo) variants are included. The version with the upper drawer is only included in the Storage variant and the Lite is only included in the Companion variant. I can create more variants on request.
Due to varying designs, availability, and sizes of panel connectors, I have left the connector bay empty, you can make your own panel mount relatively easily based on your desired connectors. The photos of the design have example panel mounts (this is NOT included in the downloadable files).
You will need:
- Time (big files, long prints)
- A big printer (or cut the files to fit yours)
- M4x25 bolts (8 Pcs)
- Panel mount connectors of your choice
- Hub, battery, hard drives, etc (you choose your configuration, I recommend a battery with 65W and 100W PD on the hub)
- (optional) Acrylic or similar sheet material (for the drawer floor and to make your own panel for the connectors)
- (optional) hinges and hardware for drawer floor
- (optional) paints, filler putty, etc for finishing
