3D model description

My Sweetheart wanted a planter to fit on the window sill above the kitchen sink to put one of her plants into. The sill was 4 inches wide so I fired up SolidWorks and designed a planter that was as big as I could to fit on the bed of my Artillery X1 printer. It ended up being 280mm long by 100mm wide and 135mm tall.

The pot sits on top of 6 feet that come up from the base to provide a place for excess water to drain into, and the bottom of the pot has a set of 13 drainage holes even distributed across the surface to provide good drainage if over-watered.

The base can be printer flat on the print bed with no supports. The pot needs supports in the 6 holes on the bottom that rest on the feet that come up from the bottom and you also need a ring of support around the ledge that is 25mm up from the bottom of the pot.

The walls of the pot are 2.5mm thick, so it is robust and holds water well. I used a 0.6mm nozzle in my Artillery X1 printer to print a bit faster. The base took about 5 hours to print and the pot took about 12 hours to print. If you print with a 0.4mm nozzle it will double the print times. The base used 148 grams of filament and the pot took 396 grams of filament plus an additional 50 grams that was used for support.
