Lore:

The U.S. Army M16A1 was essentially the same weapon as the early XM16 with the addition of a forward assist, corresponding notches in the bolt carrier, bird-cage flash suppressor and ribs on the lower receiver. The M16A1 was the finalized production model in 1967.
