3D model description

#COSPLAYXCULTS

When I got my first 3D printer (2018) I really wanted to try to make my own custom cosplay props, but I felt like everything was so complicated for beginners. I felt like comic-book/anime/pop-culture accessories were the best way to practice even if you don't have access to a larger printer. Additionally, the process to assemble everything felt daunting.

So I designed this x-men cyclops visor as a, hopefully, less complicated intro into cosplay prop making. There are 4 stl files included, with one that has to be printed twice. Once assembled, it should be quick to glue all the pieces together and paint over the glue of your choice.

NOTE I : The lens was made with an acetate sheet that was cut to fit the design and made red with window tint (completely optional).

NOTE II: This was modeled to fit my head dimensions, but scaling up or down should be a quick adjustment. However, if there sides are too tight, I would suggest using a hand held blow-dryer on hot aiming it at the center of the visor (4-6in away from the surface). Going back and forth for 30-60sec , should allow the visor to be flexible enough to gently stretch outward.

3D printing settings

All of my parts were printed with Protopasta Green PLA.

The visor was printer upside down to reduce the amount of supports used and earpiece 2 (print 2) was printed on it's flat side with no supports. The earpieces 1 L and R, were both printed on their smaller surfaces with support blockers near the corners of the opening to fit onto the visor to make supports easier to remove.

Printer : Artillery Genius (Standard)
Nozzle : 195C
Print Bed: 60C (my personal preference for best results)
Infill Density : 5%
Infill Pattern : Gyroid
Support X/Y Distance : 1.2mm
Support Z Distance : 0.4mm
