3D model description

What's more iconic of the Super Mario Bros. video game series than the dreaded Piranha Plant!? Well, I suppose Bowser, or maybe MagiKoopa (a.k.a. Wizenheimer) might be more dreaded, but that Pakkun Flower Piranha... he's everywhere! With his big sharp teeth and the occasional fireball... sorry, I got side-tracked. What I mean to say is, check out this awesome 3D printable Piranha Plant from the Nintendo brand Super Mario mega-series :-)

This fly trap chomper comes in two separate files - the "Pipe and Stem", and the "Head". (I've also included a "WHOLE" file, but it is for display purposes on cults3D only, not meant for printing.) You won't need supports for the head. It's positioned to print upwards at enough angle to layer up without any support, even at moderate speeds. The Pipe and Stem, on the other hand, will require supports, if only to hoist up the leaves. Check out the 3D Printing Settings below for tips on easy to remove supports.

PIRANHA PLANT PAINT & ASSEMBLY
Assembly is a no-brainer. Dab a little glue on the end of the stem and pop the head on it. Done. Before you do that, consider coloring it up with a touch of paint.

The Pipe and Stem can be printed in green with no further coloring required. The head is another matter. You can either print it white and paint red, or print it red and paint white. I strongly suggest the latter - print red and paint white. Those teeth, dots, and lips are quite easy to get to with a small-tip paint brush. A bit of white paint goes a long way. Just don't drink too much coffee first, and it should be a breeze! Add a spray of clear gloss coat to really make his colors pop.

Enjoy!

DIMENSIONS
At 100% scale, the Mario Piranha Plant (aka Pakkun Flower) plant measures:

X = 7.06cm / 2.78in
Y = 7.19cm / 2.83in
Z = 16.95cm / 6.67in

We scaled him down to 70% and were still able to get a good clean print, without it being too fragile.

3D printing settings

The Pipe and Stem will require supports underneath the leaves. You can save time and filament by placing support on the top of the pipe, directly under the leaves, but they will leave some scarring behind on the pipe. I prefer Cura's Tree Supports, set to Touching Build Plate only. If your tree supports are tuned well enough, you can achieve a very smooth print with little-to-no sag or scarring. The key element here is a Roof Distance of 1.2 (far higher than the default). You may get a little extra sag, but it's far less noticeable than the scarring traditional supports leave behind. At the least, it's a setting worth playing around with.

Layer Quality Height: 0.16
Infill: 15%
Speed: 60mm/s
Supports: Yes
Plate Adhesion: None

The Head requires no supports, but I strongly suggest a brim, since the area touching the build plate is very minimal. I like to increase the Brim Line Count from 8 to 15, just for a little extra adhesion.

Layer Quality Height: 0.16
Infill: 15%
Speed: 80mm/s
Supports: No
Plate Adhesion: Brim
