The more video games that appear in the Super Mario series, the more creative its engineers get with power-up items. One of the most popular of all has to be the Propeller Mushroom (a.k.a. Propellerhead or Propeller Suit). To any fan of the game, it's instantly recognizable as the item that gives Mario (and all other playable characters) a helicopter-style flying ability. Being extreme fans ourselves, the Mario Propeller Mushroom PowerUp seemed like the perfect addition to our growing collection of Super Mario Video Game STL files.
Propeller Mario Background Info
This unique flyer mushroom was first introduced to the series in the 2009 release of New Super Mario Bros. Wii (for the Nintendo Wii, of course). It's superior to the helicopter block, which you had to hold onto and shake the Wii controller to use, and far more versatile than the Racoon Tail that only offered momentary flight, and only then if you had the right rhythm in pressing the back-button to keep him afloat.
The Propeller Power Up makes its debut appearance in New Super Mario Bros. Wii in the very first location, World 1-1, and continues to appear throughout the geography of the maps as a primary power item. Similar to the P-Wing, it can get Mario and his friends out of a lot of sticky situations, without encountering too much trouble on the ground. It continues to appear in some, but not all, new video games in the Super Mario series.
PROPELLER POWER PAINT & ASSEMBLY
Whether you paint this item has more to do with how many filament colors you have on hand. We printed the cap in orange, the head and side-dots tan (iiidMAX Light Skin PLA+), the eyes black, and the propeller gold (RepRapper Silk PLA). Thus, only the eyes need a dab of black paint.
As for assembly, it's very simple. Glue the circles on the hat and eye into the face, then glue the face under the hat. The propeller will push down snugly onto the top of the cap so you shouldn't need to glue it, unless you want to. We prefer it loose, so it still spins.
Enjoy!
DIMENSIONS
At 100% scale and fully assembled, the Mario Propeller Power-Up Mushroom measures:
X = 6.36cm / 2.50in
Y = 8.03cm / 3.16in
Z = 7.49cm / 2.95in
We scaled him down to 40% and were still able to get a good print on the head and cap, but the propeller needs a lower layer quality (0.08 to .12 at most) and a slow print speed of 20-40mm/s.
