3D model description

Crawler robot presented at MakerFaire 2023 in Brussels!

Perfect little robot for robotics beginners, very good mobility, large space for batteries and receiver (or Arduino), many attachment points on the chassis to add various accessories (distance sensors, light, etc.).

The running gear and moving parts of the gripper use ball bearings, which reduces friction and greatly improves the life of the moving parts.

The lower wheels of the tracks are cushioned, providing excellent grip even on uneven terrain.

Motorization is provided by micro servos (2x continuous + 2x 90 degrees). MG90 (metal) or FS90 (plastic) servos work very well, and the slots are optimized for these two servos of virtually identical size.

The file contains plans of the entire chassis (body + tracks) + a clamp + LED spotlights.

3 types of filament are used:

  • PLA for shells, wheels, etc. (Eryone OR Winkle, perfect)

  • hard TPU for clamp nuts, suspensions and shock absorbers (Eryone TPU)

  • Soft TPU for tracks. Soft/very soft TPU is perfect for tracks, offering much better grip (Fila Flex)

You'll need different M3 screws:

  • 6mm

  • 14mm

  • 20mm

  • 40mm

  • 20 ball bearings 3x6x2.5mm (ex ref Mr63zz )

3D printing settings

Nothing very extraordinary, I print the whole thing on Ender 3 S1.

About 50h of printing for the complete robot with its clamp.

About 300g of material (PLA + TPU), but it all depends on the density of the filament used.

Approx. 17cm (length) x 14cm (width) x 6.5cm (height).

Interior space 15cm x 7.5xm x 3.5cm to accommodate batteries, receivers, etc.
