Help bio diversity on your scale! Even though swallows are a protected species, many people still destroy their nests because of the inconvenience they can cause.
Single nest for house swallows to be printed if possible in PETG, for outdoor use and weather resistance.
Quarter-circle in shape with a flight hole on the top, the window swallow's nest must be placed under a roof overhang, the edge of a window or a balcony. To encourage the adoption of your nest by swallows, you can put several next to it. Since the Swallow is a gregarious bird that nests in colonies, the more nests there are available in a location, the more likely you will be that a swallow will take up residence in your nests for the season.
To avoid soiling of droppings on the walls and windows, you can install an anti-soiling device under the nests to stop the droppings of droppings, such as a 20x20cm wooden board, fixed 40cm below the nest.
-How to build your nest:
1-Fix the mounting plate either directly in place, under your roof, your balcony or your window, or on a wooden board that you will then have to fix in place. Be careful to use a fixing system adapted to your support (wood screw for a wooden support, dowel and screw suitable for a concrete support, etc.)
2-Slide the nest on its support so that the hollow part is glued to the wall, and the flight hole is positioned towards the front and the top of the nest.
3-All you have to do is keep the nest on its support by adding a cable tie or a wire in the groove provided for this purpose on the front of the nest. This locks the nest to its support.
-Where to install your swallow nests:
1-The space in front of the nest must be clear. Avoid fixing your nests if a tree is planted in front, or another building is opposite. The swallow needs space to enter and fly away from its nest.
2-Avoid a facade with climbing plants (ivy for example)
3-The nests must be at a minimum height of 4 meters. The higher the nest, the more swallows will appreciate it.
4-Fix your nests in a place protected from the sun. A nest exposed to direct sunlight will heat up quickly. It must therefore remain as much as possible in a shady place (under a balcony, a wide cornice, etc.)
5-If you already have swallows nesting on a facade, add nests first on this facade.
-Maintenance and advice:
1-In order for your nest to stand the test of time without problems, I advise you to dismantle the nest and its support after each season to carry out its complete cleaning and its storage indoors during the winter. Don't forget to reinstall it the following season, before the swallows come back!
2-Do not hesitate to install several nests next to each other to provide a habitat for a greater number of individuals in the colony.
