3D model description

A comparison between Skanect, Reconstructme and Kscan3D software, using a Rev1 Kinect sensor for xbox360...

Skanect lost, its uninstalled. Main reason= $140 if you want more than 5000 polygons.
The UI is cookie cutter at best, but functions quite well, and super simple to use.

ReconstructMe, had some awesome videos and a great sales pitch. it seems to do alright and its free. the 3Dselfie seems like a cool feature and i plan on trying it out in the future... for my comparison, the capture was finicky. it kept losing tracking and was super slow to recover. but produced a decent model with a high polygon count.

Kscan3d.. Well ok then.. after i dealt with getting it installed and working... stupid .net crap... its pretty awesome.... I ran a Batch capture of 20 images using Mesh alignment and it was super simple, count down tone and shutter sound queues you to rotate the object and get out of the scene... aligning and combining meshes was pretty fun and fluid. the export process worried as i thought it hung up, but it was exporting a 53mb .stl file after all...

STL files are named accordingly, hopefully... loading them into thingview will allow you to inspect them closer with out downloading... im pretty sure these are not fit for printing, so print at your own risk ;)
