3D model description

After much deliberation and shopping around for a TAZ 6 enclosure, this is the solution I landed on. It cost me a whopping total of $30 at the hardware store. It is 3/4" thick (14.5"x48") styrofoam insulation boards, cut to size, covered in strips of foil insulation tape on the inside faces for heat reflection and on the edges and corners for added strength. The cut pieces of styrofoam are fragile, but once it is all taped together it is fairly rugged.

I found the foam boards in packs of 6 for $10 and the foil tape was $20 for a single 4" thick roll. The Excel file contains a list of which pieces to cut from which boards so they all can be made from a single 6 pack of boards. I just barely had enough tape to get all the faces done and all but the last few edges with the one roll, so be frugal with the tape.

The front top section can be kept as a separate piece that works as a top door for quick reach ins.

I get temps in the 50-60 C range with the enclosure, measured at the top. Printing ABS with no trouble.

UPDATE:

The box fits loosely, and because of the cables coming out of the back of the TAZ, there is a variable fit there. You could consider cutting out holes to fit each cable and that might help seal up the area more square. There may also be measurement errors contributing to some lopsidedness. Please update me if any are found.

The foil tape should actually be applied to the outside of the cover, not the inside. This way, heat will irradiate through the foam, and bounce back in through the foam again. That should help increase the temps inside the chamber. As mine is, the heat bounces directly back into the air in the chamber and the foam is outside closer to the temperature of the room, so the foam conducts heat away from the foil tape layer and makes the chamber less warm. So put your tape on the outside and leave the inside bare foam! :)
