3D model description

Take a step back in time to the 1970s, when kitchens were decorated in pastel shades and merry mushrooms. The original Cottagecore kitchen decor, these mid-20th century Mushroom Canisters will make you feel like a kid again, sneaking peppermints from the candy dish or drinking rootbeer from a plastic red barrel cup at grandma's house. If you know... you know!

This model is what you might call a labor of love. After much trial and error, I chose to make them rectangular, rather than cylindrical. this way, the mushrooms on the front can be printed separately, layer by layer, with filament color changes along the way. I've also supplied a single canister file with the mushrooms attached, for anyone who would rather paint the mushrooms. The lid, however, is one piece and will require some painting to get that vintage toadstool look.

I took the liberty of providing STL Files for the canisters in 5 sizes so you won't have to scale them up and down in your slicer. No size is too large to fit on the standard printer bed size of 220x220x235. If you have a larger printer, you're more than welcome to increase the size further. Just make sure to scale the 'Jar' and 'Lid' files evenly. If printing the Mushrooms 'Design' separately, scale its X and Y evenly, but do not change the Z scale.

When you download the Merry Mushrooms Canisters, they come in the following sizes and dimensions:

Extra Large (X-Lrg)
- X = 17.9cm / 7.0in
- Y = 16.1cm / 6.3in
- Z = 22.3cm / 8.8in

Large (Lrg)
- X = 16.1cm / 6.3in
- Y = 14.5cm / 5.7in
- Z = 20.1cm / 7.9in

Medium (Med)
- X = 14.5cm / 5.7in
- Y = 13.0cm / 5.1in
- Z = 18.1cm / 7.1in

Small (Med)
- X = 13.0cm / 5.1in
- Y = 11.7cm / 4.6in
- Z = 16.3cm / 6.4in

Extra Small (X-Sml)
- X = 11.7cm / 4.6in
- Y = 10.6cm / 4.2in
- Z = 14.6cm / 5.7in

PRINTING / PAINTING THE MUSHROOM DESIGNS
As mentioned, there are two ways to print the Mushroom Canister - with or without the Retro Mushroom design. To print them separately (recommended), you'll need to print these three files (in the same corresponding size):

  • Jar (No Design)
  • Design
  • Lid

The 'Design' file (e.g. Mushroom Canister - Design Lrg) is built in 3 layers. In the images above, the bottom layer is represented in Orange, followed by a layer of Brown, and finally Yellow. If you are familiar with pausing changing filament colors during a print (e.g. Cura's 'Filament Change' or 'Pause at Height' feature), you'll need to change the colors accordingly.

When printing the Design files separately, you may want to print two copies of the same size Design per jar, so you can place one on the front and the back.. Or, just one to place on the front. That's up to you. Print out the 'Jar (No Design)' file, then glue the Mushroom Design in place.

-or-

The other option is to print the canister with the mushroom design attached. This will embed the design onto the jar during printing, which means you'll need to do a little painting to bring those fungi to life. for this option, you'll print these two files (in the same corresponding size)

  • Jar (with Design)
  • Lid

Either way, we hope you have as much fun printing and decorating your kitchen with these as we have!
