3D model description

Update 2020/08/24:
The V3 design has extended the flanges that get glued to the EDF housing. I wanted to make sure there was more surface area holding the adapter onto the housing so that vibrations won't cause it to come loose. I also added some ribs running down the adapter. My goal with this is to prevent the housing from warping from the heat given off by the motor unit. I did 5 test flights with this new design and haven't had any issues yet.

Original Message:
I have been adding DIY led afterburners to a lot of my jets lately, but one issue I've had is that nobody has designed an adapter for the 70mm outrunner motor EDF systems. This design is for use on the old "PRO" version of the Freewing 70mm F-16, which used a Freewing 3048-2300 Kv brushless outrunner. I suspect this will also work if you have the "normal" outrunner motor that comes with the non-high performance version, but I cannot confirm since I don't own one.

I have had 3 flights on this so far and there doesn't seem to be any noticeable reduction in power. The system seems to work well, but I will continue doing testing and update the design if I see the need.

This is an experimental design. Due to the nature of outrunner motor design, it is much more difficult to create a functioning LED adapter for these than it is for an inrunner motor. If you decide to use this design, please be careful that it is installed cleanly and that the motor is not rubbing against the housing. Make sure all wires and leads are out of the way and cannot get snagged by the spinning of the motor.

I'm looking for feedback and I would be interested to know if this design also works on other 70mm EDF units. If you print this and use it on other power systems, please let me know which ones work (and which don't). I'd like to be able to help people know which jets this design will support.

P.S. This adapter is intended to be glued to the fan housing.
