Before being a goddess, Kubaba was one of very few women to have ever ruled in their own right in Iraqi history. Most versions of the Sumerian King List (an ancient stone tablet originally recorded in the Sumerian language, listing kings of Sumer (ancient southern Iraq)) place her alone in her own dynasty, the 3rd Dynasty of Kish.
