3D model description

Floating Pinion Demonstrator is a small device designed to test and demonstrate a floating pinion gear drive train.

The pinion is normally parked below the rear (left) gear and knob allowing the rear (left) gear and knob to be spun freely. When the front (right) gear and knob is turned clockwise, the pinion is rotated into contact with the rear (left) gear and knob, causing the rear (left) gear and knob to rotate. When the front (right) gear and knob is stopped, the pinion returns to the parked position and the rear (left) gear and knob continue rotating freely.

Notes:
I printed this in Cura "Draft" mode.

Print two each of "Axle Cap.stl" and "Axle.stl". Print one each of the remaining components.

Post-Printing
Prior to assembly, test fit and trim, file, sand, etc. all parts as necessary for smooth movement of moving surfaces, and tight fit for non moving surfaces. Depending on the colors you chose and your printer settings, more or less trimming, filing and/or sanding may be required.

Study "Assembly.stl", carefully noting the locations and positions of the various components as assembly proceeds.

I assembled the prototype Floating Pinion Demonstrator in the following order:

1) Position "Spur Gear (8 teeth).stl" into position in "Chassis.stl", then press one of "Axle.stl" into position as shown in "Assembly.stl". Press one "Axle Cap.stl" onto the end of "Axle.stl".

2) Position "Spur Gear (16 teeth).stl" into position in "Chassis.stl", then press "Axle 2.stl" into position as shown in "Assembly.stl.

3) Position "Spur Gear (40 teeth).stl" into position in "Chassis.stl", then press the remaining "Axle.stl" into position as shown in "Assembly.stl". Press the remaining "Axle Cap.stl" onto he end of "Axle.stl".
