3D model description

This is my take on a Z-brace for the Wanhao Duplicator i3 and probably it's clones (not the plus versions).
I designed this to leave as much open workspace as possible while maintaining maximum stability.
I call this "Z-brace 0.5" since it braces halfway up the Z-gantry.
The mod comes with optional adjustable damper-feet.

It's really rigid, easy to assemble and only requires two 250mm threaded rods and some M3-screws and nuts. All parts print without support if you have decent cooling. If you are having trouble printing the threaded parts, there is an extra tolerance version of those parts.

You need to drill 6 small holes in your printer frame, I'm including a printable "helper" to get the holes right as well as easy to follow instructions.

Hardware needed
2x M8-250mm threaded rod
6x M3 screws, at least 8mm long
6x M3 nuts

Check your local hardware store or order them online.

Tools needed

1x 3mm drill bit
1x 2mm drill bit (or smaller)
1x larger drill bit (like 8mm) for deburring
1x square tool (recommended) or a spirit level
1x adjustable wrench or 13mm wrench/spanner
1x 2.5mm hex wrench
1x needle nose pliers

also helpful
1x 13mm socket wrench/bit

Nuts

Material: PETG or PLA

Wall Thickness: 0.8
Top/Bottom Thickness: 1.2
Infill: 100%
Fan: High

Adjustable feet

Material: PETG or PLA
Resolution: 0.15

DamperPad

Material: Flexible TPE (like Ninjaflex)
Resolution: 0.1-0.2mm
Wall Thickness: 0.8
Top/Bottom Thickness: 1.2*
Infill: 20% Cubic!
Note: if you are having trouble getting the infill to connect, increase "infill line width" to 0.5mm and slow down.

*This value is calibrated for the hardness of regular Ninjaflex. Depending on the shore hardness of your particular filament you may need to adjust this value by Β±0.1 or Β±0.2 (increase for a lower hardness filament and vice versa).
Ninjaflex has a rated shore hardness of 85A.
