This wooden spoon is a plate for giving gifts and offerings to the gods. It was discovered at the base of a sculpture and is on display at The British Museum alongside it; the sculpture it placed with is the French Polynesian 'Human Figure' (also uploaded on the Scan The World archive!) that is thought to represent Rongo, the god of agriculture, bringer of rain and plentiful breadfruit crops. It is evident that through the engravings and decorations on the handle, this offering spoon is that to serve the figure of Rongo.
