Inspired by this modular card and piece holder I found here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1510222
I designed this from scratch in FreeCAD with the following differences:
- Much larger pins for a better friction fit.
- A 15 degree lean from vertical of the when one module is mounted on the face of another.
The examples pictured were printed on a Prusa i3 Mk3 with default PLA settings and a 5mm brim.
I suggest using the brim because without one, I found that the print would warp in the corners and end up curved (they still fit together though).
There are small supports included in the design. These must be removed before use.
My current method is:
- Score the supports where they meet part with side cutters.
- Remove the supports with a box cutter
- Finish with a dremel.
Be careful when testing for fit. They should fit together without much force. If you feel that you need to force them together, stop and remove a bit more material from the support side of the pins.
