3D model description

My Vertex K8400 printer's built-on spoolholder is fitted with excellent roller-bearings - and that's a good thing... most of the time. (And the same will go for many other printers out there).

In this particular case, I have quite good filament that's wound on a spool with an unbalance in it: so every time the heaviest point goes over the top-center, the spool goes on for a bonus half a round & uncoils its filament in the process. As you can imagine, after a few spins, things are getting nasty.

This alternative version of a spoolholder doesn't use bearings - it uses a simple fixed axle, providing sufficient friction to prevent the unwanted uncoiling.

My expectation is, that I won't be needing this spoolholder that often, but I will want to use it every now & then: so, this is what I came up with... When not needed, it can be tucked away in a drawer, without taking up much space.

You'll need:

2 off - Frames "Spoolholder Alt" - provided as STL and STEP versions.
2 off - M8 threaded rod (or equivalent)
8 off - M8 Nuts
8 off - M8 washers
1 off - Center axle (I used a piece of rolled-up cardboard, for now).
Optional: 4 off - M8 covers, to avoid damage from the threaded rod ends.

(As the Vertex was busy on another print, I printed this set on the Opiliones 2L)

3D printing settings

Printed on the Opiliones 2L, in PLA filament:
- layer thickness = 0.30mm, 30% infill
