This black granite statue is one in a series of three that depicts King Sesostris III, exhibiting the fine portrait quality of Egyptian Sculpture during his reign in the late Twelfth Dynasty. The faces are excellently worked, although the ears are over-large in common with many statues of the period. The sculpture was a gift from the Egypt Exploration Fund in 1905 and is on permanent display at the British Museum in London.
