Description
This torso, originally part of a full figure, wears a headdress crowned with a crest of a raptorial bird, possibly a harpy eagle (harpia harpya). Birds of prey such as eagles, hawks and falcons were considered solar creatures because of their daytime hunting habits. Night hunters, such as owls, bats and jaguars, were associated with the underworld.
