3D model description

If there's ever a reason for an automated build platform, this is it.

Here's a chessboard / checkerboard. (It's not up to me to decide what game you play!) It measures about 13" square. (That's 33cm for you folks with the better measurement system)

In all, there are 401 pieces.

256 connectors
64 top pieces
49 bottom pieces
28 side pieces
4 corners

I think it took me about 44 hours of printing time to make this, so settle in for the long haul.

To the New Museum Challenge judges: I know this is 398 pieces over your limit. But in the spirit of the competition, I have made a derivative of your rules.

3D printing settings

I'd recommend printing a top piece, bottom piece and connector first, then making sure the connector will snugly fit between the two, then scale the connectors accordingly. I made this for my printer, and they're all a little bit different. The top and bottom pieces should measure 1.5" square. I don't know if they'll get to you scaled the correct way.

There are additional files for less tedious prints, including a stack of 4 tops and bottoms, as well as a file for 20 connectors. It should all fit on a 4x4 printing platform.

I also suppose that you could sand it down after it's assembled, then brush it with acetone for a permanent bond and a shiny finish (if you make it with ABS), but I wasn't feeling up to it after spending so long on the process. Plus, I like the puzzle nature of it.
