3D model description

Print your design with a new 3 mm wood-filament.

3D printing settings

Printable wood / LAYWOO-D3 / is a new FDM filament that I developed within the last year as an alternative printing material.
It allows to print wooden-like objects with annual rings - and that without warp !

The original design for my first reasonable print is a concept toy -
"locomotive with plugable wheels"

from the 80-ies (designed by Grit Weiss Annaberg) that I rebuilt with permission for 3D-Printing.
Using the main parts as

boiler
boiler-plate
wheels
smoke pipe

there are easy modifications possible to create waggons for a complete train.
You can print the filament in a range from 175°C to 250°C without blockage the nozzle.
The flow of molten LAYWOOD3 is excellent.
The printed wood will appear rough, similar to MDF Medium-Density Fiberboard
Playing a little with material feed settings brings more craters or smoother surface.

Annual-Rings printing-temperature:
180°C = bright colour,
245°C = dark wooden effects

features of LAYWOO-D3

near zero warp
rough or smooth surface possible during one print
paintable, grindable, cutable with saw
printable tree-rings
stics well on print bed, no heated bed necessary
the filament contains recycled wood and harmless binding polymers
the material has similar thermal durability as PLA
is not dedicated to substitute the "good old wood or bamboo"

Hygenic aspects: The composite material contains recycled wood and only such polymers that are harmless, but printed parts should not be eaten.
To be honest - because the filament contains the half polymer binder - it´s not a typical bio-product and sadly not cheaper than standard ABS or PLA.
